The dojo has one main practice room that has mirrored walls and bars for stretching, and heavy bags and places to condition.
Here are students putting on the tare (waist protector) (click this link for more information) while the do (midsection protector) kote (gloves) and men (helmet) lie in front of them. The practice room is floored similar to the traditional Japanese manner, strips of wood set on a hardwood platform frame and buffed to a high degree of polish, so that when we perform fumikome (foot stomp similar to what you see sumo wrestlers do before a match) during a strike the shock is partially absorbed by the floor in this time tested design.
Here you can see two students in uniform checking their kamae (fighting posture) in the mirror of the dojo.
This is keiko (sparring) practice in the advanced class. Ultimately this is where the style of all our fencers is honed as most of the keiko happens in this room.
One of the advanced students has just struck a men (head) point on his opponent during uchi-kome (forms) practice and is following through.
