Equipment
Shinai - bamboo sword used in kendo
Tsuba - circular guard on the shinai (hard plastic or thick leather)
Tsuba dome - flexible holder of the tsuba (rubber or soft leather)
Keiko go - Kendo clothing worn on the upper part of the body (like a jacket)
Hakama - Kendo clothing worn on the lower part of the body
Bokuto - wooden sword used in martial art and kendo training, also known as a bokken.
Men - Kendo helmet that protects the face, head, shoulders and throat
Kote - Kendo gloves that protect the hands, wrists and forearms
Do - Kendo breastplate that protects the trunk and chest
Tare - Kendo protector that covers the waist, groin and upper legs
Bogu - general descriptor of kendo armor as a set
Himo - thick strings used to tie the bogu on the body
Tenugui - cotton towel worn on the head under the 'Men"

Issoku-itto no ma (or Issokuittomai) - One step distance. Preferred for proper use of waza.
